RESULTS

A terrific morning on Saturday. Glad to have had so many people out, a marvelous group of volunteers from the Striders and Santa Fe Rotary, and the energetic group from Girls on the Run. A special thanks goes out to our dedicated event sponsors and the City of Santa Fe, as well as the race beneficiary - the Santa Fe chapter of Girls on the Run.

Race and age-group results had been posted to the Striders website this weekend - albeit somewhat hard to locate without a link on the Home page. We've re-posted them below:

  5K by Age Group

10K Overall - 72 finishers from 5 states and the District of Columbia

Race Weekend is Here

A beautiful weekend lays ahead for the 36th annual Santa Fe Run Around! Saturday's forecast calls for clear skies and morning temps in the 40s-50s. Couldn't be a nicer morning for a run around downtown Santa Fe with several hundred friends.

We will have race-day registration and packet pickup setup from 700am-745am on the north side of the Plaza. We expect a fairly large turnout compared with recent years, so plan to give yourself enough time to find parking and visit the registration table. Last minute runners, walkers, kids 1K are encouraged to come out and enjoy the day with the rest of us. Don't overlook pre-paying your parking through 1000am to fend off any unwanted 'awards'.

We have confirmed with Mariachi Conquistador to have music on the Plaza Bandstand from 830am-930am. Like you, we know that everything is better with Mariachi. We also have forty-odd raffle prizes from our generous sponsors to give out after the awards ceremony, including:  A one hour flight lesson from New Mexico Sport Aviation, gift certificates to Santa Fe Bar & Grill, a pass to Fitness Bootcamp Santa Fe, gift certificates to The Running Hub, and more.

Come out Saturday, bring a friend, knock out a few miles and enjoy a summer morning on the Plaza.

Packet Pickup

One item we're receiving several questions about is packet pickup. As in previous years, this is the setup:  Race day registration and packet pickup will be available 645-745am, by the Plaza Band-Stand. Early bird packet pickup (and last minute registration) will be available Friday the 16th at The Running Hub from noon to 530pm.

Tracking New Mexican Runners at Boston - 2014

It's Patriot's Day, and the 118th running of the Boston Marathon! A more beautiful Monday morning simply does not exist.

In the spirit of this spring racing season, and the lead-up to May 17th here on the Plaza, we have pulled together a tracking list of Santa Fe area runners heading out from Hopkinton into Boston today. The list below ought to include all runners from Santa Fe and Los Alamos. We found no entrants from Taos, Espanola, or Las Vegas. We've added a couple of gamers that we like to follow including Albuquerque's Ken Gordon and Kathy Kirsling.

We'll be updating the tracking list as the race progresses. This morning's starting list shows 86 runners from the state of New Mexico (last year's race totaled 80).

Many of today's runners are returning from last year's Boston, tied to the events of that day. We're sending positive thoughts to all of them and wish them the strength and clearness-of-mind to transcend this day.

Are we missing someone? Let us know.

Santa Fe Girls on the Run

The primary beneficiary of each year's race are the Girls on the Run chapter of Santa Fe. Our local Girls chapter is headed up by the intrepid Alice Temple (a runner who has casually mentioned to some of us that she had once bandited Boston). Alice has built the local GOTR program to nine programs in eight area elementary schools. The Girls mission is to instill confidence, leadership, and the importance of setting goals through running. Ideals any runner can rally behind.

The Run Around is the spring graduation event for the many young women in the program and Alice expects the Girls turnout from last year's approximately 100 runners, to increase by nearly a third. Magnificent, yes? She's supported of course by several dozen selfless volunteers and adult 'running buddies' who partner with each girl through their graduation runs.

The Run Around has generated nearly $15,000 toward the Girls on the Run program over the last three years which we hope to build on they continue to build on their success. Another stellar reason to get out and enjoy a May morning in downtown Santa Fe, along the river and around the Plaza. Test one's self against the field of runners and energetic groups of young women from Girls on the Run, or walk the 5K with friends and family. Register now and set your fitness goals for May 17th and the approaching summer season.

And of course, one doesn't need to participate in May's Run Around to support the young women of Girls on the Run. Send along a contribution and note of support here, or inquire about volunteering or assisting in coaching duties in their after-school programs.
